Reserve a Room
"I sat in the Juniper lounge in the morning with coffee and watched people work, network, reconnect. By evening, the whole energy had shifted — dinner conversations, drinks, the low hum of people genuinely engaged with one another. The lobby was doing something. I wanted to name it."
There is a moment — it happens the instant you walk through the entrance of 1 Hotel West Hollywood — where the city drops away. Not because the hotel is remote, or hidden, or elevated above the fray. It's on Sunset Boulevard. You can hear the Strip if you listen for it. But inside, something has been done to the air. The scent arrives first: warm cedar, sage, something mineral and alive. Then the materials register — brushed concrete columns softened by natural linen, reclaimed timber from fallen California trees, living walls that breathe with the room. The lobby is the point. Everything else radiates from it.
THE PROPERTY
Most hotels on the Sunset Strip are selling a version of Los Angeles — the mythology, the flash, the proximity to something. 1 Hotel West Hollywood is doing the opposite. It brought 75 tons of fallen timber down from Angel City lumber yards, hired RIOS to rebuild a former Jeremy Hotel into something that feels like a canyon clearing, and then trusted that restraint would be enough. It is more than enough. This is the rare property where the architecture is the amenity — where the building itself justifies the rate before you've seen a single room.
LOBBY CULTURE
Juniper operates on a rhythm most hotel lobbies never find. By 8am it's a workspace — unhurried, productive, the kind of room where a two-hour morning feels earned rather than wasted. By midday the energy shifts: creative meetings, casual lunches, people who look like they belong somewhere between a pitch deck and a photo shoot. By evening it becomes something else entirely — the low hum of a city that has decided, collectively, to stay a little longer. The lobby bar here isn't an afterthought. It's the reason people come back.
DESIGN NOTES
RIOS made a decision early: no surface would try harder than the material itself. Earthen plaster walls in clay tones. Natural fiber rugs. Reclaimed timber so present it changes the acoustics of the room. Living walls that are maintained, not installed and forgotten. The two courtyards — collectively called The Canyon — are planted with grassland meadows and use salvaged logs as benches. None of it is decorative in the conventional sense. All of it is considered in the deepest sense. The design philosophy here is that nature doesn't need to be framed. It needs to be trusted.
BAR & SHARED SPACES
Juniper anchors the ground floor, but the property doesn't rely on a single room to carry the experience. Harriet's Rooftop on the West Tower operates as its own destination — panoramic views from downtown to Santa Monica, a cocktail program built around seasonal and local ingredients, an atmosphere that shifts noticeably with the light. The Bamford Wellness Spa reads less like a spa menu and more like a prescription for re-entry into the world. The outdoor Canyon spaces between the towers feel less like hotel grounds and more like a park that happens to be private.
This is the hotel that proved something: that a lobby could be a life. That a morning with coffee and a croissant, a workout, and an afternoon at the bar with a laptop could be the entire shape of a perfect day.

ROOMS THAT MATTER
The rooms at 1 Hotel West Hollywood are deliberately quieter than the property's public spaces — and that tension is intentional. Floor-to-ceiling windows frame either the Hollywood Hills or the Los Angeles skyline. The material language carries through without repetition: organic cotton mattresses, Bamford organic toiletries, non-toxic rugs, clay-toned walls that absorb light rather than reflect it. These are not rooms built to impress on a site visit. They are built to feel right at midnight, after a long day in the city, when the only thing you want is a room that already knows what you need.
THE VERDICT
The Lobby Edit began here. Not as a concept — as a feeling. Everything you read on this site traces back to a morning at Juniper with a coffee and a croissant, watching a city do what it does best. There is no hotel in our portfolio where the lobby does more work, carries more identity, or draws a more considered crowd. This is the benchmark.
