"A hotel that dares you to enter without smiling. The door staff in all-white ringmaster outfits. The largest Keith Haring work not in a museum hangs behind glass on the second floor. A deconstructed disco ball by Sebastian Errazuriz above the bar. Faena New York is unabashedly maximalist and precisely that is the point."
Alan Faena opened his first New York property in September 2025, in the in the western tower of the One High Line complex at 500 West 18th Street, a building designed by Bjarke Ingels Group, the Danish firm behind the 8 House in Copenhagen and the Vancouver House. The 120-room hotel occupies the lower floors of the twisted residential tower, with the High Line running directly adjacent and the Hudson River visible from the upper suites. The lobby is called The Cathedral, and the defining element is Diego Gravinese's monumental mural, The Sefirotic Journey, covering the entrance wall. A Keith Haring original hangs behind protective glass in the second-floor gallery corridor.
THE PROPERTY
West 18th Street and the High Line occupy a stretch of western Chelsea that has changed more dramatically than any other block in Manhattan over the past fifteen years. The Hudson Yards complex is visible to the north. The Meatpacking District and Chelsea Market sit just south, while the Chelsea gallery district extends north. The Faena occupies the directly alongside the High Line's west terminus, which means the elevated park runs at window height for the lower floors, a relationship with the city that no other hotel in New York has.
LOBBY CULTURE
The Cathedral lobby is organized around Gravinese's mural and the circuit of social spaces that flow from it. The Living Room has twin Deco-inspired bars and a terrace suspended above the High Line. La Cava is a wine cellar anchored by a Chris Levine light work. El Secreto is the nightlife den, built around Sebastian Errazuriz's deconstructed disco ball. The three spaces are connected by the second-floor gallery where the Keith Haring hangs, and the entire social circuit is designed to move guests through the building rather than keep them in one room.
DESIGN NOTES
Alan Faena and his team produced interiors that carry the brand's signature symbology, bold patterns, rich textures, floor-to-ceiling windows, into a BIG building whose twisting geometry gives every room a different relationship to the city. The Hudson River suites on the ninth and tenth floors are the strongest rooms on the property, with 900 square feet and water views unavailable from the lower floors. The two-story Faena Suite at the top has a dedicated elevator, three king bedrooms, a baby grand piano, and a landscaped terrace with a panorama from the Hudson to the Empire State Building.
BAR & SHARED SPACES
La Boca, Francis Mallmann's tribute to Buenos Aires, serves Patagonian fire-cooking alongside pop-art murals by Edgardo Gimenez and live performances. It is the hotel's primary dining anchor and the same conceptual universe Mallmann has applied at Faena Miami, open fire, Argentine spirit, and a room that treats dinner as theater. The Living Room's dual bars handle the cocktail program from afternoon through late night. The Faena Theater is a gilded cabaret space commissioned with artwork by Andrés Reisinger. Tierra Santa Healing House, the 17,000-square-foot spa, is open.
Faena New York opened in September 2025 in a BIG-designed tower at 500 West 18th Street. La Boca brings Mallmann's Patagonian fire-cooking to Chelsea. The gallery corridor holds a magnificant Keith Haring. The Faena Suite is two stories with a baby grand and a terrace from the Hudson to the Empire State Building.

ROOMS THAT MATTER
The 120 rooms divide across the first ten floors of the BIG tower. The Highline King Junior Suite is the entry into the suite program, named for its direct relationship with the elevated park below. The Classic One-Bedroom and Hudson Signature One-Bedroom Suites give progressively stronger Hudson River positions. The Chelsea One-Bedroom Suite occupies the eastern side of the building with city views. The Rose One-Bedroom Suite is the hotel's most elaborately finished standard suite.
THE VERDICT
The most culturally loaded hotel opening in New York since the Hotel Chelsea. A BIG building, a Mallmann kitchen, a Keith Haring, a Gravinese mural, and a Faena Suite with a baby grand above the High Line. The city will be going to this building for reasons that have nothing to do with hotel rooms.
Editor's Note
The most culturally loaded New York hotel opening since the Chelsea. Mallmann's fire, a Keith Haring, and a Gravinese mural above the High Line.
