“David Rockwell designed 206 rooms inside the Morris Lapidus-designed Eden Roc on Collins Avenue. Brant Foundation art curated for the property. Four pools. Nobu Miami anchors the dining program.”
Nobu Hotel Miami Beach sits within the Eden Roc Miami Beach, a landmark building designed by Morris Lapidus in 1955 on Collins Avenue in Mid-Beach. Chef Nobu Matsuhisa, Robert De Niro, film producer Meir Teper, and Australian businessman James Packer conceived the hotel as a standalone property within the larger Eden Roc resort, with its own front desk, pools, art program, and dining. David Rockwell designed the 206 guest rooms and suites in a vocabulary he describes as drawing from Japanese beach house aesthetics, walnut, bronze, washi paper, and leather, layered over Lapidus's original MiMo bones.
THE PROPERTY
Collins Avenue at 45th Street places Nobu Hotel Miami Beach in the northern section of Mid-Beach, adjacent to the Fontainebleau to the south and Bal Harbour to the north. The Eden Roc is a landmark of Miami Modern architecture, and Nobu occupies a self-contained portion of the resort with its own hotel identity and dedicated amenities. The four pools, the dedicated beach club, and the two dining venues operate as a complete resort program separate from the larger Eden Roc infrastructure.
LOBBY CULTURE
Rockwell replaced Lapidus's original 16-seat circular lobby bar with a new bar of identical shape and scale, a decision that honors the landmark while creating a contemporary social space. The Brant Foundation art collection is distributed throughout the public areas, bringing a curatorial standard rarely applied to hotel lobbies in Miami Beach. The adults-only Nobu Pool operates separately from the other three pool environments and draws the hotel's most social crowd. The beach club beyond extends the program to the Atlantic.
DESIGN NOTES
Rockwell's palette for the rooms combines the Japanese beach house aesthetic with the MiMo building's existing character: walnut, bronze, washi paper, linen, and leather in a sumptuous but restrained register. Fili d'Oro Italian linens on the Nobu signature bed. Nespresso machines and Japanese-style teak benches in the showers throughout. The villa suites include a separate gym and complimentary beach or pool cabana. The Zen Ocean View King Suite is the standard ocean-facing suite category at 593 square feet.
BAR & SHARED SPACES
Nobu anchors dining; Ocean Social adds oceanfront fare. Four pools and the 22,000-sq-ft Esencia Wellness Spa complete the resort.
Nobu Hotel Miami Beach opened in January 2017 within the Eden Roc, the 1955 Morris Lapidus landmark. Rockwell replaced the original 16-seat circular lobby bar with a new bar of identical shape. The Brant Foundation curated a contemporary art collection specifically for the property.

ROOMS THAT MATTER
The 206 accommodations run from standard rooms at 380 to 440 square feet through the suite categories. The Ocean Room View is the entry-level ocean-facing category. The Zen Ocean View King Suite at 593 square feet is the primary suite offering with the full Rockwell palette. The Umi Ocean View with Balcony adds outdoor access to the Atlantic. The Asahi One-Bedroom Suite expands to a separate bedroom. The Yuhi Bay View One-Bedroom Villa expands to as much as 1,300 square feet, with bay views and a private balcony.
THE VERDICT
The most complete hotel program in the Eden Roc building and the most specific application of the Nobu brand outside a city center. Rockwell's design engages seriously with the Lapidus landmark it inhabits. The Brant Foundation art program is the most curated in Mid-Beach. And the Matsuhisa kitchen, in this location, with the beach and the pools, makes a case that the hotel format suits the brand better than any of its urban properties.
Editor's Note
The most complete Nobu Hotel anywhere. Rockwell's Lapidus engagement and the Brant Foundation art make Mid-Beach's most specific hotel program.
