"Ninety-seven rooms on Thompson Street with Hannes Peer's Italian mid-century palette. The Apartment runs a complimentary aperitivo from 4 to 7 daily. Prix Versailles World's Most Beautiful Hotels 2025."
The Manner is Standard International's luxury concept, distinct from the Standard brand in register and intention. Where the Standard hotels are social and theatrical, The Manner is discreet and residential, the name references the particular manner of hospitality the founders wanted to create, which is to say the feeling of staying at a friend's well-designed home. Hannes Peer's palette draws from mid-century Italian residential architecture: ochre, navy, sand, blood red, and dark wood, with handmade furniture and commissioned art throughout. Alex Proba painted the hallway ceilings. Elvira Solana's mural panels, painted at her Madrid studio and shipped to New York, wrap the Otter Restaurant's windowless walls.
THE PROPERTY
Thompson Street between Spring and Broome sits in the quieter residential section of SoHo, far enough from Broadway that the tourist density drops and close enough to the West Village that the neighborhood energy remains. Washington Square Park is eleven minutes on foot. The High Line is fifteen minutes west. The Spring Street subway station is four minutes away. The block of Thompson Street directly outside the hotel is tree-lined and relatively quiet for Manhattan, a condition that makes the mid-century residential design vocabulary feel plausible.
LOBBY CULTURE
The lobby is broken into sections by graphic dividers that give the ground floor a house-like sense of distinct rooms rather than a single continuous hotel space. The Otter, the hotel's ground-floor seafood restaurant, anchors the social life at street level with Solana's mural panels surrounding the dining room. Sloane's, the second-floor cocktail bar, is the evening alternative. The Apartment on the second floor is the hotel's most specific amenity: a guest-only lounge where breakfast is served, all-day snacks are available, and a complimentary aperitivo runs from 4 to 7pm every day. It operates less like a hotel amenity and more like a shared living room.
DESIGN NOTES
Peer and Haller produced a building where every detail has a named maker. Nicholas Shurey and Giovanni de Francesco contributed sculptural pieces throughout. Alex Proba painted the hallway ceilings. Elvira Solana's mural panels, painted in Madrid and installed in the restaurant, document New York history in a muted palette, including a large panel showing the Statue of Liberty's face being assembled. The rooms have full-length mirrored walls, marble bathrooms, integrated audio systems, and custom chandeliers. The color palette shifts room to room within the same family of ochre, navy, and dark wood.
BAR & SHARED SPACES
The Otter serves seafood from morning through dinner in the Solana-wrapped ground-floor room. Sloane's on the second floor is an evening cocktail bar that operates in the same Italian-inflected mid-century register as the rooms above. The Apartment is the hotel's most programmed space, breakfast, coffee, all-day snacks, and the 4-to-7pm aperitivo, all included in the room rate. The rooftop opened in Spring 2025 with a seasonal outdoor space above the SoHo roofline.
The Manner opened in September 2024 in SoHo on Thompson Street. Hannes Peer's first hotel project, designed with Standard's Verena Haller. A 97-room property that feels more like a mid-century Palm Springs house than a Manhattan hotel. Prix Versailles World's Most Beautiful Hotels 2025.

ROOMS THAT MATTER
The 97 keys include standard rooms and ten suites plus the Duplex Penthouse. The King Bed Deluxe builds on the compact entry-level King with a sitting area and Peer's full palette. The King Bed Corner Deluxe adds the corner position and wider natural light. The King Studio Suite is the entry into the suite tier, with expanded square footage and the design at its most concentrated. The King Studio Suite Deluxe adds scale. The Duplex Penthouse at the top is the building's most complete accommodation, two levels, with the best view available on Thompson Street.
THE VERDICT
The most considered new hotel design in SoHo since the Crosby Street Hotel. Hannes Peer's Italian mid-century palette is specific and consistent without being decorative. The Apartment's daily aperitivo is the amenity that guests remember longest. The Prix Versailles award in 2025 confirmed what the building communicates immediately: this is the best-designed hotel to open in Manhattan that year.
Editor's Note
The most considered SoHo hotel opening since the Crosby. Peer's design and The Apartment's daily aperitivo make the stay.
